SMG Stand Against Gun Violence

Amid the recent rise in shooting incidents across the country, the American College of Physicians issued a statement which affirmed their position that violence from firearms is a pressing public health concern. Because physicians serve on the frontlines of this epidemic, the ACP felt compelled to vocalize, once again, its support for immediate Congressional action to dedicate the resources and funding necessary to better understand and address the issue of firearm-related violence. Sheridan Medical Group, as a health care provider in the city of Buffalo, stands in support of the ACP’s statement and reiterates their concern over the growing problem of gun violence, both locally and across the country. We at SMG are dedicated to maintaining the good health of our community members, and to do so, we must take a stand against gun violence.

An important message from the Board of Directors:

"We feel it is important make clear our position, as an organization, on the recent event of the death of George Floyd and the outrage of the American people to all of the George Floyds across the country.

We believe in this movement and any action that peacefully advances and protects the inalienable rights of all people for equal access to safety, including safe housing and safe communities, education, health care, employment and nutritious and affordable food.

The science community has long known that chronic, socially sanctioned racism is a public health crisis with profound downstream health implications to people subject to it.  As providers of healthcare we add our voice to the call for radical change to dismantle systemic racism."

-Jennifer Carlson, LMSW

        Director of Clinical Development

Our goal is to be an equal opportunity employer and deliverer of health care.

Please let us know how we are doing and what we could be doing better.
